  • Video: Create a PowerPivot BI Dashboard from Raw Data in Less than 20 Minutes

    May 14, 2012

This video will demonstrate the ease with which flat file raw data can be integrated, modeled, and deployed for an Excel 2010 dashboard using PowerPivot. If you have experience with Excel 2010, you can follow along with this video to create a Business Intelligence dashboard with slice-and-dice filters. This demonstration will use real Department of Energy Fukushima Incident data from http://Data.Gov.

  • Video: Analyzing Cancer Healthcare Data Incidence with PowerPivot

    May 24, 2011

Healthcare organizations swim in an ocean of data. Analysts in both healthcare organizations and research must tie together multiple disparate data sources in order to integrate the data required for a comprehensive analysis of patient care and operations. Microsoft PowerPivot is a valuable Business Intelligence (BI) tool for tying such disparate data together for slice-and-dice, drill-down, cross-functional ad-hoc analysis.

  • Video: Using PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer Series, Bottom Axis, Background and Pie Charts

    February 16, 2011

A common objection to PerformancePoint 2007 Dashboard Designer was often the lack of a pie chart visualization option in reports. When looking for a method to visually display percentages of the whole, I have always been partial to 100% stacked bar charts since they provide sight lines for category proportion comparison. However, pie charts are a tried and true visualization method that many folks are comfortable using.

In PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer, you can have your pie and slice it too.

In this article, the second installment in a series spotlighting some of the upgrades that can be found in PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer, I will use the new pie charts to walk you through the use of the Series, Bottom Axis, and Background dimension and value placements for analytic chart building.

  • Video: New Sort and Filter Features in PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer

    December 16, 2010

Ever feel limited by PerformancePoint 2007 Dashboard Designer? There are several new features in PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer that add rich and useful capabilities for the customization of SharePoint 2010 dashboards. In fact, there are far too many improvements to adequately address in a single article. This article will be the first installment in a series of articles spotlighting some of the specific improvements that can be found in PerformancePoint 2010 Dashboard Designer.

In the 2007 Dashboard Designer, sorting and filtering of grids and charts is optimally performed in the underlying data sources. More often than not, that means modifying the underlying cubes in Analysis Services. Fortunately, the 2010 Dashboard Designer brings a WYSIWYG solution to the rescue.

  • Video: A Microsoft BI Pareto Chart Created in in Excel for a SharePoint 2010 Dashboard

    June 24, 2010

A Pareto Chart, which can be used to visualize the Pareto Principle (the 80/20 rule), can be created in Excel 2010 for display with slice and dice capabilities on a SharePoint 2010 dashboard. Using an Analysis Services cube built with AdventureWorks data, a Pareto Chart is constructed for publication using Excel Services. Also learn how to add a parameter so that the Pareto Chart can be sliced and diced using a PerformancePoint filter.
